Betty S. Watson, a longtime resident of Patriot’s Colony at Williamsburg, died Dec. 28, 2014, at the age of 91.

A native of Ilion, New York, she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Edwin; her son, Dale E. Watson; and her sister, Nancy Smith.

Betty was first and foremost a mom, raising her two sons as a stay-at-home mom. When they were old enough, she had the opportunity to pursue her second passion of being a librarian, first at a number of school libraries in California and ultimately as the head librarian for the town of Amherst, New Hampshire, from which she retired.

When Edwin retired, they moved to Etowah, North Carolina, where she was active as a volunteer at the local library as well as her church, Etowah United Methodist Church. They then moved to Patriot’s Colony at Williamsburg, where they spent many enjoyable years.

She is survived by her son, Donald E. Watson and his wife, Sue, of Williamsburg and her granddaughter, Brittany Watson, of North Oxford, Massachusetts.

No services will be held locally. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
