Warren Harding Tignor died peacefully May 19, 2014. He went home to be with his beloved wife, Urselle, who preceded him one week prior. He was 90.
He was born Oct. 8, 1923, in Tignor, Caroline County, to J. Bagby and Annie Tignor, and lived most of his life in Williamsburg. He was a beloved man who loved his Lord, country, family and life. He proudly served his country in WWII as a European theater Army tank commander in the 753 Tank Battalion Company A and was critically wounded in Germany, earning two Purple Hearts and many battlefield decorations.
He worked for the U. S. Government at Langley Air Force Base TAC headquarters as a Logistics Analyst Manager, retiring in 1980 with 40 years of recognized excellence and leadership performance. He was an outstanding member of his community and belonged to Shriners International, Masonic Williamsburg Lodge No. 6 and Patrick Henry DAV. He was an active member of the Walnut Hills Baptist Church.
Mr. Tignor will be greatly missed and remembered by all the valued friends who showed support with their time, well wishes and prayers.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Deborah Tignor Brown and husband, Thomas, of Davie, Fla.; son, Gary Tignor, of Gloucester; daughter-in-law, Deborah Chavez Wyatt, widow of his late son, Danny; grandson, Jonathan Neil Brown and wife, Jana, of Shreveport, La.; granddaughters, Teresa Wyatt and Trista Wyatt, both of Gettysburg, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Bella Bleu and Lucas Grei Brown and Paul Edward, Aaliyah Marciona and Roman Isaiah Wyatt; and 12 nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Nelsen Funeral Home with a Masonic ceremony at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, with reception afterward. A full military honors burial service will follow at noon at Parklawn Memorial Cemetery, 2551 N. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
