Joseph Robert Van Bergen, 93, worked for the Colgate-Palmolive Company in New York City for 30 years

Joseph Robert Van Bergen, of Williamsburg, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. He was 93.

He was born in Elizabeth, N.J. and was a graduate of Rutgers University and a veteran of WWII. He resided in Cranford, N.J. and worked for the Colgate-Palmolive Company in New York City for 30 years, managing the company’s investment portfolio. He was a member of the Elizabeth, N.J. chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Van Bergen became a resident of Williamsburg 21 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen; daughter, Susan, of Boca Raton, Fla. and her children, Will and Ellie; son, Peter, of Williamsburg and his wife, Jamie and their children, Elizabeth, Luke and John.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, May 10, 2014, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cranford, N.J. Interment was at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Woodbridge, N.J.
