
Billie Jean Smith, of Yorktown, died on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014. She was 83.
She was a native of Jonesville and was a Peninsula resident since 1949. She retired as a lab tech from BASF. Following her retirement she was employed with Busch Gardens of Williamsburg. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who lived for her children and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Curtis E. Smith; one brother; and four sisters.
She is survived by her three daughters, Beverly Murphy (Louis), of Elizabeth City, N.C., Phyllis Horn (George), of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Diane Smith (Kathy), of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Barry, Wendy and Alexandra; great-granddaughter, Erica; one brother; and four sisters.
A funeral service was held Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Amory Funeral Home. Interment was private at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
