Bonne Hostetler Starry, a resident of Newport News since 1994, died Jan. 1, 2014, at the age of 64.

She was born in Harper, Kan. on Nov. 22, 1949, graduated from Harper High School and went to college at Emporia State and Wichita State universities.

Mrs. Starry was a loving wife and mother, amazing grandmother (Grams), great Army wife, beautiful airline hostess, very special English teacher, award-winning real estate agent and generous and loving friend. She accomplished all of these titles with the biggest of hearts. She will be missed by all who knew her for her spunk, energy and zest for life. She never found a challenge she couldn’t master and she was always willing to take on something new, different and exciting.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Marie (Baker) and her father, Lester Hostetler.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughters, Erin Marie (Wayne) Alsup and Kristen Suzanne (Joe) Claburn, both of San Antonio; and grandchildren, Wesley, Molly and Julia.

In Mrs. Starry’s memory, the family is asking for donations in lieu of flowers to be made to one of her favorite charities, Girls Inc. Girl’s Inc.’s mission is to “inspire girls to be strong, smart and bold,” something she always instilled in her daughters.

Interment will held Jan. 13, 2014, at Mrs. Starry’s hometown, Harper, Kan. The family will host a reception in Newport News in her honor at a later date to be announced.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Nelsen Funeral Home.
