Sarah Elizabeth O’Beirne had a multitude of talents, including sewing, cooking and crafts. Most importantly for her, she was a homemaker for her husband and family.
After living with Alzheimer’s disease for nine years, Mrs. O’Beirne died quietly on Oct. 9, 2013, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
She was born in North Carolina, spent a while in Birmingham, Ala. and finally moved to Newport News/Hampton where she spent the majority of her life. She was a member of Chalkville First Baptist Church and was proud of her religion.
Mrs. O’Beirne was preceded in death by her husband Ellis Lee O’Beirne and oldest son, Albert Lee O’Beirne of Yorktown. She was the last surviving child of Willie Ervin Jones and Carrie Lee Jones.
She is survived by her youngest son, David R. O’Beirne (Linda) of Gloucester; daughter Phyllis E. Harris (Mike) of Trussville, Ala.; five grandchildren, one step-grandson, seven great-grandchildren and two step-grandsons.
Funeral services and interment will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Ala.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gloucester Humane Society, 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester, VA 23061.
