A disabled WWII veteran, George E. Caswell served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a member of the Armored Forces and later became a member of the Army’s occupation of Okinawa following the end of the war.

Peacefully, Mr. Caswell died on Oct. 4, 2013.

He graduated from Newburyport High School and went on to earn his B.S., Ed.M, and CAGS from Boston University. His graduate work was done at Tufts, Northeastern, and Harvard Universities. He went on to serve as a school principal for Lynnfield, Mass., as well as the Mathematics and Science Coordinator, for 33 years before retiring.

Professionally, Mr. Caswell was a member of the National Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Retired Educators of Massachusetts. He was a life member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion Post 368 and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. His Masonic memberships included St. John’s in Newburyport, Mass. and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Newport News. He was a deacon at Warwick United Church of Christ for many years before becoming a member of Yorkminister Presbyterian in Yorktown.

Mr. Caswell was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Caswell of Newburyport, Mass.; sons Mark, of Derry, N.H. and John of Leesburg; and sisters Dorothy, Barbara and Gwendolyn of Newburyport, Mass.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marion P. Caswell of Yorktown; son, Paul and his wife June of Yorktown; grandson, Cory of Yorktown; brothers, Donald Caswell of Smithfield, Mass. and William of Newburyport, Mass.; and daughter-in-law, Eilana Caswell of Leesburg.

Services will be private.
