WILLIAMSBURG — The Great Decisions lecture series, sponsored by the League of Women Voters-Williamsburg, is set to begin Feb. 7.
The series continues on Tuesday mornings throughout February and March. For 2023, the program will be hybrid; with registrants able to choose to participate on Zoom or in-person at the Williamsburg Regional Library auditorium.
Scheduled topics and speakers are:
- Iran and Gulf States — Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Government and Public Policy at William & Mary, who has had a long career in military and government service.
- Chinese Foreign Policy — Professor Andrew Mertha, Director of the China Studies Program and the China Global Research Center at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
- Energy Geopolitics — Dr. Carolyn Kissane, the Academic Director of the graduate programs in Global Affairs and Global Security, Conflict and Cybercrime at the Center for Global Affairs at NYU. Kissane was named one of Breaking Energy’s Top Ten New York Women in Energy and Top Ten Energy Communicator.
- Elections in Latin America — Ambassador Christer Persson, a member of the Swedish Foreign Ministry who has held various positions at the home-office and abroad, largely dealing with Latin America.
“I’m very pleased with the quality and range of this year’s speakers and that most of them will attend in person,” Chairperson Don Schilling said.

Registration includes one briefing book published by the Foreign Policy Association. Cost is $65 for an individual or $90 for a family/household.
