WILLIAMSBURG — The Moose Riders Activity Group at Williamsburg Moose Lodge 757 is organizing a fundraising event this weekend in memory of Logan Anderson, a young member of the group who lost his life last year in a motorcycle accident.
“The Tater Tot Trot,” is the Moose Riders’ inaugural Memorial Ride and Poker Run. The event kicks off this Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Williamsburg Moose Lodge.
In honor of Logan, who had aspirations to join the military, money raised at the Tater Tot Trot will go to the ROTC program at Mooseheart Child City and School.
“This is almost exactly a year since he passed,” said Dorothy Crow, president of the Moose Riders Activity Group, in an interview with WYDaily. “The ride is going to an ROTC program at Moose Heart Child City and School because they have an ROTC program there and Logan really wanted to be in the military. That was what his goal was and what he was working towards. So we thought that in his memory we could donate to their program and we could help other kids that also would like to do that.”
The fundraiser’s name pays homage to Logan’s group nickname “Tater Tot,” given to the 22-year-old by members of the Williamsburg Moose Lodge.
“He was one of the younger members and he rode motorcycles,” said Crow. “We got to chatting and eventually, he became a Moose Rider. He would help at events, and hang out with all of us, and he just made such an impact on the Moose Riders, and just all of the members at the Moose. There’s so many people he touched in the short time that he was there.”
The memorial and poker ride is open to all vehicles, not just motorcycles, and you don’t have to be a member of the Moose Lodge to participate. The event has a preplanned route made up of 5 stops:
- (Start) — Williamsburg Moose 757 — 5429 Richmond Road.
- (1st stop) — Honey Butters Kitchen — 7521 Richmond Road.
- (2nd stop) — Two Drummers BBQ — 8864 Richmond Road.
- (3rd stop) — Cull’s Courthouse Grille — 10801 Courthouse Road.
- (4th stop) — Billsburg Brewery — 2054 Jamestown Road.
- (Final stop) — Williamsburg Moose 757
The Saturday morning registration for The Tater Tot Trot is from 9-10:30 a.m. During that time, participants draw a card and write down what they drew on a sheet of paper. At each stop, participants get to draw another card. When everyone returns to the Williamsburg Moose Lodge at the end of the route, the participant with the best hand is the winner.
The inaugural memorial event concludes with a BBQ picnic at 1 p.m.
The Tater Tot Trot costs $20 per driver to register and $10 per passenger. The picnic costs $15 for adults, $7 for kids age 12 and under.
“He [Logan] was just so friendly and kind to everybody,” said Crow. “Especially to a lot of older members he impacted just by being there, and he just spoke to everybody and he was just warm and welcoming as soon as he walked in the door.”
