WILLIAMSBURG— Around 8:32 p.m., on Oct. 26, Williamsburg Police Department requested the assistance of state police to investigate a fatal crash on 1600 Richmond Road, involving an SUV that had struck a moped rider.
State Police say that preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of a 2004 Ford Explorer, 45-year-old Williamsburg local Misty May Sites, was traveling westbound on Richmond Road when she attempted to turn into the McDonalds parking lot and struck a moped rider traveling east on Richmond Road.
Police said the driver of the moped, 29-year-old Jose Luis Encarnacion Mora, another Williamsburg local, succumbed to his injuries sustained from the crash.
Police mentioned in a release that the next of kin has been notified and Sites has been charged with reckless driving. Police added that at this time it does not appear that alcohol or speed were contributing factors in the crash.
