WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary (W&M) is welcoming Matthew L. “Matt” Brandon as its next Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and CEO of the W&M Alumni Association (WMAA) on Nov. 28.

According to an official announcement, Brandon will be responsible for ensuring all alumni of William & Mary are engaged, involved, informed, represented and encouraged to be active in the life of the university.

Brandon graduated from W&M in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. He also holds a Master of Science in journalism and public relations from Ohio University.

In his new leadership role with W&M Matthew will work with colleagues including Chief Career Officer Kathleen Powell to help implement W&M’s Vision 2026 strategic plan, W&M said. Brandon will work with Powell on expanded professional development programming for alumni as well as a new networking platform to assist W&M alumni at all stages of their careers.

“Ever since I set foot on campus as a high school student, I knew William & Mary was a place where I could belong,” said Brandon. “My goal is to ensure all alumni can thrive in the W&M community and can be full participants, and that they can take advantage of all the benefits William & Mary provides throughout their lives.”

Brandon previously served in leadership positions at both Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia Alumni Association. Brandon also served as associate vice president for alumni relations at Lynchburg College. He currently serves as director of development for the Thomas Jefferson Foundation in Charlottesville, Virginia.

According to W&M, Brandon intends to begin his term by meeting with colleagues across the university. He will attend alumni events starting this December with the goal of meeting as many alumni as possible.

Brandon succeeds Marilyn War Midyette, who served in the leadership role for eight years until her retirement in August.
