JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Virginia State Police (VSP) has released additional information regarding the escape of two residents of Eastern State Hospital.
On Sunday, April 17, the hospital, which is located in the James City County portion of Williamsburg, notified VSP regarding the disappearance of two residents. Bryant Marcus Wilkerson, 29, is reported to have escaped during the night on Saturday, April 16. Austin Prestin Leigh, 31, also escaped the facility. Both Wilkerson and Leigh are convicted felons.
On Sunday evening (April 17), Leigh was apprehended without incident by the City of Chesapeake Police Department. Initially, an update was released stating that Leigh and Wilkerson did not know one another. However, VSP now reports that, at this stage in the investigation, it appears that both men damaged an interior wall in order to escape.
Wilkerson is still at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with any information regarding Wilkerson or his whereabouts are encouraged to call VSP by dialing #77 on their cell phone, calling (757) 424-6800, or by emailing the department at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
