UPDATE: State Police Search for Two Convicted Felons Who Escaped from Eastern State

UPDATE (April 17, 2022, 8:47 p.m.): Virginia State Police (VSP) reports that escapee Austin Preston Leigh was apprehended by the Chesapeake City Police Department (CCPD). Leigh is being held by CCPD without bond. He relayed to CCPD that he did not know Wilkerson nor his whereabouts. Wilkerson is considered armed and dangerous.

JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Virginia State Police (VSP) are currently searching for two patients who escaped from Eastern State Hospital Sunday, April 17.

The two patients were identified as 29-year-old Bryant Marcus Wilkerson, who is described as an African American male, and 31-year-old Austin Preston Leigh, described as a white male.

VSP said that both men are convicted felons with outstanding warrants.

Leigh has outstanding drug-related warrants out of Chesapeake, along with a warrant for escaping a mental facility.

Wilkerson is wanted on a felony probation violation, and also has a warrant for escaping a mental facility. He is considered armed and dangerous.
