YORK COUNTY — York County School Division (YCSD) announced that, as of Monday, Feb. 28, masks would be optional for students on all YCSD buses and vans.
YCSD made the announcement on Friday (Feb. 25) after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) relaxed its guidance on mask wearing for most Americans due to the falling number of reported COVID-19 cases nationwide.
According to the division’s announcement, the school board meeting set for tonight, Feb. 28, will include an update to the state order that requires staff to continue wearing masks inside school buildings and vehicles.
The order that currently requires all staff to wear masks until York County reaches moderate community transmission, as defined by the Virginia Department of Health, or the order is rescinded by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.
The YCSD School Board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the York Hall boardroom, 301 Main St.
The meeting will be broadcast live on YCSD-TV (Cox Cable channel 47 and Verizon channel 39) or streamed on the YCSD YouTube channel.
