WILLIAMSBURG — Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the Virginia Saltwater Sportfishing Association (VSSA) are partnering up to host the 2022 Virginia Charter Workshop on March 26.

The workshop will highlight fishery resource, regulatory, and U.S. Coast Guard updates, and will be held online using Zoom.

“We are excited to offer this program to charter and head boat captains, mates, and marina professionals, in addition to folks interested in entering the charter business,” said Susanna Musick with the VIMS Marine Advisory program.

The event will feature a fisheries keynote address from Executive Director of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Robert Beal. Additionally, there will be talks from representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and established captains.

The workshop is free, but VIMS says that space is limited.

The deadline to register for the event is March 14, 2022, and Musick says that as COVID restrictions change, a hybrid format that includes in-person attendance at VIMS’ Gloucester Point campus may be available.

To register for the event please email contact information to Susanna Musick: susanna@vims.edu
