WILLIAMSBURG — An armed male that barricaded himself in a Williamsburg home on Sunday, Dec. 5 has been placed into custody by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO).
At approximately 1:41 p.m., YPSO was dispatched to the 100 block of Wellington Drive to perform a welfare check. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an armed male barricaded himself inside the residence.
Throughout the afternoon, YPSO advised neighbors to shelter in place while evacuating the neighboring residences while make numerous attempts to make contact with the male who was inside the home.
YPSO received assistance from both the James City County and Newport News police departments as well as York County Fire and Life Safety. Additionally, the departments utilized the facilities and parking lots for Unity Church and Terrace Grocery.
At around 11:55 p.m. Sunday, the man exited the residence and was taken into custody by YPSO.
YPSO Sheriff J.D. “Danny” Diggs wishes to thank York County emergency dispatchers, all of the other departments that rendered assistance, as well as both Unity Church and Terrace Grocery who aided during the lengthy incident.
No further information regarding the man’s identity or motive have been released at this time.
