WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Public Art Council (WPAC) will host its monthly meeting on Oct. 25, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. at the Stryker Center.

On the agenda for new business is an application submitted by Silver Hand Meadery seeking funding for a public wall mural at the parking lot located at 224 Monticello Ave. This is the site where Silver Hand Meadery operates its retail business.

The proposed mural is entitled, “Flight of the Honey Bee, circa 1622.” If approved for funding, it will feature the bees, pollinators, and flowers used to make mead and honey products.

“Mead is an ancient drink that predates writing and agriculture,” the description of the project reads. “In fact, historians postulate that it was first created around 10,000 years ago. We see this as a testament to our long-standing relationship with the honeybee and other pollinators that cradled humans at the dawn of civilization. The mural transports viewers to the year 1622, when the European Honeybee was first introduced to the Jamestown area, showcasing larger-than-life native plants which explode with color and life.”

The proposed city-sponsored public art project has a projected cost of $4,073.75.

Other items on the agenda include the following committee updates:
WPAC Application – Patricia Rublein & Chris Caracci,
Inventory – Elaine McBeth & Harold Philipsen,
Locations – Pat Dent & Scott Spence,
Public Input – Barbara Ramsey & Sarah Balascio.

The next WPAC meeting will be on Nov. 29, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. at the Stryker Center, 412 N. Boundary St.
