Worker falls while working at Busch Gardens, flown to Sentara in Norfolk

A person working at Busch Gardens fell from an unknown height on Thursday morning and was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

“We were notified by a contractor working on our property that one of its workers suffered an injury this morning,” Cindy Sarko, spokeswoman for Busch Gardens, wrote in an email. “We understand that the worker was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for further observation.

“His condition is not known at this time,” the statement continued. “Our thoughts are with the individual and his family.”

At approximately 8 a.m on Thursday, the James City County Fire Department received a 911 call about a person who had fallen from a height while working on a project at Busch Gardens, said Al Catlett, battalion chief and spokesman for the James City County Fire Department.

Fire crews determined the person suffered injuries, called Nightingale and was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, he said.

“I don’t have any other information,” Catlett said, adding Busch Gardens would be in charge of releasing more information.

It’s unclear how many feet the contractor fell, what the individual’s injuries are and what project she or he was working on at the time of the fall.
