NEWPORT NEWS — A feature film and two documentaries from Chickasaw Nation Productions will soon be airing on NNPS-TV Cox 47/Verizon 17.
The Chickasaw Heritage Series is a documentary project initiative from Chickasaw Nation Productions designed to inform, educate and entertain audiences about the resilient and persevering spirit of the Chickasaw Nation.
The feature film “Pearl” will air: Nov. 1 at 9:30 p.m., Nov. 4 at 6:57 p.m., Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. and Nov. 29 at 8:30 p.m.
Set in 1920s rural Oklahoma, “Pearl” is based on the true story of Chickasaw aviatrix Pearl Carter Scott — the youngest licensed pilot in American history. Mentored by world-renowned aviator Wiley Post, Pearl first pilots a plane at the age of 12 and becomes a commercial pilot and local celebrity before she reaches adulthood. In the feature film, Pearl finds love, becomes a wife and mother and her two greatest passions collide.
Chickasaw Nation Productions also says two selections from the Chickasaw Heritage Series will also air.
- “Bearer of the Morning” will air Nov. 1 at 11:30 p.m., Nov. 4 at 10:59 p.m., Nov. 15 at 11 p.m. and Nov. 29 at 10:30 p.m.
- “Pearl Carter Scott: On Top of the World” will air Nov. 2 at 12:30 a.m., Nov. 4 at 11:57 p.m., Nov. 16 at midnight and Nov. 29 at 11:30 p.m.

“Bearer of the Morning” follows the life of Mary “Te Ata” Thompson Fisher as she embraces the Chickasaw tradition of storytelling and transforms herself into the world-renowned performer, Te Ata. By studying and performing traditional First American stories, Chickasaw Nation Productions said Te Ata worked to help overturn negative stereotypes and advocate for the preservation of Indigenous American cultures. Te Ata kept her Chickasaw heritage close to her heart while sharing the unique story and spirit of the Chickasaw people.
“Pearl Carter Scott: On Top of the World” complements the feature film, “Pearl.” Whereas the feature champions Pearl’s accomplishments in aviation, the documentary highlights her achievements later in life. The daughter of a successful businessman in Marlow, Oklahoma, Chickasaw Nation Productions said Pearl Carter Scott was a dedicated and proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. She aspired until her passing in 2005 to do “whatever is necessary to help my fellow Chickasaws.”
