JAMESTOWN — Michele Norris, an award-winning journalist, will speak tonight at Jamestown Settlement.

Norris,  best known for her work as a longtime co-anchor of NPR’s All Things Considered, has earned multiple awards for her reporting and storytelling on issues related to race, culture and the American identity.

She has also created “The Race Card Project,” an initiative aimed at encouraging people to share their experiences and thoughts on race in just six words.

Norris will visit Jamestown as part of the Director Series, hosted by Christy Coleman, Executive Director of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. The Directors Series aims to invite scholars and public figures to discuss the legacies of America history.

“I started it four years ago with the intent of expanding the conversation about the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s mission, and more specifically the part of our mission that talks about the legacies bequeathed to nation. We try to really talk about our histories impact and what its legacies are. The Directors Series has brought in these remarkable people in all spheres of work and really asks those kinds of questions about legacy and history,” Coleman explained.

During her talk, Norris will talk about her journalism career, her journey, her own research, and her thoughts on race and identity in America.

“I am so looking forward to visiting Jamestown and sharing what I have learned during more than 15 years of listening to America talk openly and honestly about their identities and how they view their experience in America,” she said.

The event will also feature a book signing with Norris, who released her latest book, “Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Really Think About Race and Identity” in January 2024.

Tickets for this evening’s talk are $10 and are still available for both the in-person conversation and the virtual presentation. For tickets, visit JYFMuseums.org.
