WILLIAMSBURG — Centerstage Academy is welcoming professional actress and Hampton Roads native Cassie Donegan to special alumni performances of “Newsies” this weekend at the James-York Playhouse.
Donegan has been performing with Centerstage since she was four years old, performing as Kaa the Snake in a “Jungle Book” production. Centerstage says some of her all-time favorite roles with the group include Dorothy in “OZ,” Yonah in “Children of Eden” and Jane in “Tarzan,” to name a few.
This collaboration is part of an alumni cast that sees Centerstage bring in former students to perform with current students.
“It’s designed to give the kids a way to up their game a little bit,” said Rebecca Lowe, piano instructor and studio owner of Centerstage. “They get to observe and perform next to other leaders in the industry, professionals in the industry. They learn a lot and they’re challenged a little bit performance-wise to get their performance up to this level.”
Several other Centerstage alumni will also be joining the performance, including Cory Steiger, Alexys Weihl, Bridget Palermo, Jonathan McCormick, Maya Garcia and others.
The performances will be:
- June 27 at 7 p.m.
- June 28 at 2 p.m.
- June 28 at 7 p.m.
- June 29 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are reserved seating and $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Tickets should be purchased online in advance. The performances will take place at The James-York Playhouse in Williamsburg. For more information about Centerstage Academy, visit the official website.
