
HAMPTON ROADS— The Air Power Over Hampton Roads air show will go on as scheduled April 26 and 27.
The air show’s schedule was in flux until Friday afternoon after a plane crashed at Langley Air Force Base on Thursday. The MX Aircraft MSX was piloted by Rob Holland, a longtime airshow performer, was on final approach to landing when it crashed. The incident remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Department of Defense.
The bi-annual air show is hosted by Joint Base Langley Eustis. This year’s theme, “The Evolution of Air Superiority,” was chosen to emphasize the advancement of air power and its role in national defense, according to 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs.
The air show will feature several military acts, including the F-22 Demo Team, U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Golden Knights, U.S. Air Force Heritage Flights, U.S. Navy Legacy Flight, an F-18 Demonstration and a C-17 Demonstration.
In addition to thrilling aerial performances, APOHR will host a STEM Expo throughout the weekend, it added, providing opportunities to explore careers in aviation and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
All attendees must pre-register for a free parking pass. Parking locations will be available in various locations, both on and off base. Transportation will be provided for parking lots, except for close, walking distance, on-base lots. Off-base parking lots open at 8 a.m. and on-base parking lots open at 9 a.m., with flying starting at 10:30 a.m.
Prohibited items include weapons of any kind, toys that resemble firearms, laser pointers, pets (except for service animals), outside food, coolers, or grills, glass bottles, liquid without factory seal intact (baby bottles exempt), walkie-talkies, HAM radios, scanners, alcohol and illegal drugs including marijuana, bikes, skateboards, scooters, heels, roller skates, hoverboards, excessively large items and bags, drones, 3D cameras, and backpacks that are not clear/see through.
Souvenirs and food will be available for purchase and all major credit cards and cash will be accepted.
