WILLIAMSBURG— The Williamsburg Selfie Museum will officially open this summer, giving the chance to make memories with a variety of background to visitors and residents of the Williamsburg area alike.

The Williamsburg Selfie Museum, located at 2229 Richmond Road, Suite A, Williamsburg, is owned by Fran Knight and started as a passion project. She traveled a lot during her leisure time and that allowed her to see other selfie museums.

“I wanted to bring something new and creative to Williamsburg,” she said about her reasoning as to why as a selfie museum.

The Williamsburg Selfie Museum is the largest selfie museum in Virginia, having over 30 booths. The museum says it also doesn’t just have backdrops but has built out activities in the Selfie Museum. Some highlights include a Barbie Box, a private plane, an adult ball pit, glow-in-the-dark bowling, a vault and a nightclub scene just to name a few.

Knight worked on the museum for two and a half years to make sure it was the way she wanted it to be.

The Selfie Museum doesn’t just allow individuals to come in and take photos, but also allows people the opportunity to book a professional photoshoot with the Selfie Museum’s in house photographer, which also includes edited photos.

The Selfie Museum had a soft opening in July 2025, which happened due to a request from a young lady who had traveled from Los Angeles and wanted to use the facilities as part of her birthday weekend. Knight happened to be there and decided to open for her.

“I went ahead and opened that weekend, and her reaction for her and her family, of how nice it was and how much fun she had, kind of led to the soft opening,” Knight explained.

“It’s been a really good feeling now that it’s open,” Knight said.

Knight expressed that she loves seeing the families come and have a good time. She recalled a family of eight whose mother was about to be deployed, and before that, all she wanted to do was come and take pictures with her family before she left. It spoke volumes to Knight that this woman could have gone anywhere in the world but chose the Williamsburg Selfie Museum, spent an hour, and then had so much fun that the family added another hour.

“Things like that let me know that this place will be a staple in Williamsburg moving forward,” Knight said.

General Admission for the Selfie Museum is $30 and can only be booked online. Currently, the Selfie Museum is doing mostly bookings by appointment to offer a more private experience. This summer, though, the Selfie Museum will open for normal hours and walk-ins.
