Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command Angel Tree Program Launches

NORFOLK — The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command, along with its surrounding Corps, has kicked off registration for its annual Angel Tree Program.

The holiday assistance initiative provides Christmas gifts to children and families in need throughout Hampton Roads.

“At a time when many families gather to celebrate, thousands of local children face the reality of going without gifts or even a warm holiday meal. The Angel Tree Program ensures that these children experience the joy and hope of Christmas morning, thanks to the compassion and generosity of community donors,” The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command said in a press release. “Through the program, families register their children to be ‘adopted’ by donors, who then provide new toys, clothing, and other holiday gifts.”

Last year, the program brightened Christmas for more than 10,000 children across Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Suffolk, the organization said.

“The holidays should be a season of joy for every child,” said Major Chris Flanagan, Area Commander. “Through Angel Tree, our community has the power to make sure no child is forgotten this Christmas.”

Families in need, individual donors, and corporate partners can connect with The Salvation Army that serves their community to either register as a client or become a supporter, according to the organization.
