HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Customers hoping to enroll in Global Entry, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection trusted traveler program, will have the opportunity as both Richmond International and Norfolk International Airports will offer enrollment events in July.

According to CBP, Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Upon arrival to the United States, program participants proceed to automated Global Entry kiosks. After using the kiosk or mobile app, individuals will be directed to designated Global Entry lines to speak with an officer. On average, Global Entry members wait less than 10 minutes while using this program upon entering the United States.

To enroll, travelers must apply online. Once conditionally approved, applicants must undergo an interview with a CBP officer. If accepted, membership in the program is valid for five years.

In Norfolk, Global Entry interviews will return on July 8 at Norfolk International Airport. The Global Entry office is located in the Norfolk International Airport arrivals terminal, near bag carousel three.

In Richmond, Global Entry will host an in-terminal enrollment event from July 14-18. The event will take place in the main terminal of the airport in the business center on the upper level. Interviews will take place throughout the event.

Appointment times in Richmond will be given to individual applicants by CBP.

Both Norfolk and Richmond CBP officers are reminding applicants to complete all initial applications online, bring all necessary documentation, be prepared for photos and fingerprints to be taken and that interviews last between 10-15 minutes.
