Update on I-664 shooting investigation

HAMPTON — The Virginia State Police (VSP) has released more information regarding the vehicle shooting on Interstate 664 (I-664) on Tuesday, May 11.

At approximately 12:13 p.m., a VSP trooper was traveling northbound I-664, when he was signaled by individuals on the exit ramp to Powerplant Parkway.

Upon arrival, the trooper found a Chevrolet Equinox with multiple gunshots throughout. The driver and passenger, both males, suffered from gunshot wounds.

Hampton EMS was called to the scene and both victims were transported to Riverside Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

I-664 was immediately shut down due to the criminal investigation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting occurred in the northbound lanes of I-664 between Aberdeen Road and Powerplant Parkway.

By 2:40 p.m., all lanes of traffic were reopened.

VSP is asking that any possible witnesses who driving I-664, northbound, in the area around Aberdeen Road and Powerplant Parkway, prior to, or after the incident, contact the department.
