Stay safe during the holiday season with tips from local law enforcement

With Thanksgiving dinner, Black Friday here, and Christmas less than a month away, it’s easy to forget some safety precautions.

Here’s what local law enforcement have to say about staying safe during the holidays.

Brandon Maynard, assistant public information officer at the Newport News Police Department, recommends the following safety tips:

  • Don’t drink and drive
  • While traveling, allow appropriate space between you and the vehicle in front
  • Avoid distracted driving (i.e. texting)
  • Park in a well-lit spot while holiday shopping
  • Lock vehicles when unattended
  • Do not leave your vehicle running unattended
