NEWPORT NEWS — The city’s youth services department is hosting a free domestic violence awareness training at the South Morrison Family Education Center next week.
The workshop will include everything from recognizing warning signs of domestic violence and how to get help for family or friends to personal accounts from survivors of domestic violence and information from a licensed therapist, according to the event page.
Guest speakers include Neisha Himes, survivor, advocate and founder of the GROW Foundation; Mackenzie Booth, Center of Family and Child Services and the city’s police department.
According to a news release from the city, the training is “geared toward teens, parents, guardians and professionals working with families,” but is “free” and “open” to the public.
The Domestic Violence Awareness training is Oct. 24 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m at the South Morrison Family Education Center, 746 Adams Drive. Register here.
