Two Newport News teens have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a man working in his yard in York County, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.
Superia Pittman, 18, and Kavion Smith, 19, are charged with robbery, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and abduction, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies responded to the 100 block of Oak Street around 5 p.m. Monday on a report of a robbery, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward.
A homeowner was working in his yard when a man and woman — later identified as Smith and Pittman — wearing black hooded sweatshirts drove up in a beige minivan, approached him with two handguns and demanded cash, Ward said.
Ward said after the robbery, the two fled the scene. The sheriff’s office sent out a description of the pair and vehicle information to nearby localities.
Pittman and Smith were later arrested in Newport News.
Pittman and Smith are scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. June 25 in York-Poquoson General District Court.
Both remain in custody at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg, according to online court records.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have additional information about the incident to call the sheriff’s office at 757-890-4999 or the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
