
HAMPTON — The CEO of America’s largest military shipbuilding company will deliver the commencement address at Saint Leo University.
Mike Petters, president and CEO of Huntington Ingalls Industries, will deliver the address to the graduates at 10 a.m. on May 19 at the Hampton University Convocation Center.
Petters previously served as president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding and as president of Northrop Grumman’s Newport News sector. He joined Newport News Shipbuilding in 1987 in the Los Angeles-class submarine construction division, according to a news release from the university.
Petters earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1982 and a MBA from the College of William and Mary in 1993.
Saint Leo University has a long history of providing education to active duty military personnel as well as veterans and their families, according to the news release.
The university offers a multitude of degrees including criminal justice, business administration, sociology and information technology. Saint Leo University also has campuses in Newport News and Chesapeake.
Some 500 students will graduate at the ceremony.
