NEWPORT NEWS — Newport News is gearing up for its annual World Arts Celebration.
To kickoff the occasion, the World Arts Celebration is hosting an art contest. The theme is flowers. Those interested are asked to submit flower-themed art for a chance to win a free canvas print of their artwork by April 28.
The World Arts Celebration will take place from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on May 19 around the fountain at City Center at Oyster Point.
The event will commemorate more than 30 cultures from around the world through performing arts, food and music, according to a news release from the city.
The Wailers band will be the headliner for the celebration. The group specializes in Bahamian music.
Updates and weather-related announcements will be posted on Facebook, according to the news release.
