WILLIAMSBURG— The Virginia Beer Company and APEX Physical Therapy are stepping up to raise money for the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) on April 18 at a charity beer release.
While all proceeds from the beer sales will go towards APDA, the APEX Physical Therapy team also treats the annual event as a fundraiser for its Parkinson’s Disease related boxing program.
Rock Steady Boxing in Williamsburg is a specialized, non-contact fitness program designed primarily for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, combining boxing-inspired exercises with clinical oversight to improve quality of life.
The workouts focus on building strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and speech through high-energy, adaptive routines that can be modified for all ability levels. By incorporating movements that challenge the body in multiple directions, the program aims to enhance mobility and daily functioning, while also fostering a supportive community environment for participants and their families.
Scott Brubaker, a doctor and Rock Steady Boxing coach for over 10 years, is always amazed at the transformation that he sees in his patients that take part in the program.
“It’s pretty amazing to see. We are a very small, family owned office so we kind of treat the gym as a family as well. We really get to know the individuals who come to our gym. It’s always fun to see how various people come into the gym and then to see them flourish mentally and socially, it’s pretty awesome to witness,” Brubaker said.
On April 18 from noon to 9 p.m., the Virginia Beer Company will host APEX PT at its Williamsburg location. APEX PT doctors will be on site, a charity raffle and 50/50 drawing will take place, Dominion Dogs food truck will be on site, and Erik Gaines will be providing live music. The event is free and open to the public. Drawings for the 50/50 and the raffle prizes will be held on April 19. Winners will be contacted by APEX PT.
This is the sixth year of the partnership between Virginia Beer Company and APEX PT.
“It’s blossomed and changed over the years. It’s grown a little bit each time. We just hope to continue to build relationships with everyone in the community,” Brubaker said.
