WILLIAMSBURG— Visit Williamsburg, in partnership with Tripadvisor, has launched The Great American Virtual Birthday Quilt, a nationwide initiative inviting people of all ages to contribute digital quilt panels celebrating personal stories, traditions and reflections on what makes America special.
The online project complements the larger Great American Birthday Quilt, which will unite thousands of handmade quilt blocks from across the country to honor the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
“The virtual quilt allows people everywhere to create and submit digital quilt squares that represent their interests,” said Ed Harris, CEO of Visit Williamsburg. “This online version of the quilt makes the celebration more accessible by giving people a way to participate even if they are unable to make or mail a physical quilt block.”
The platform is designed to be inclusive, showcasing creativity across generations, communities and artistic styles.
How it works:
-
Answer a few questions about yourself. Participants provide information about hobbies, interests, favorite activities and personal symbols.
-
Generate a virtual quilt square. The site automatically creates a custom digital quilt block reflecting each participant’s answers.
-
Receive a personalized travel itinerary. The platform suggests a Williamsburg itinerary based on user interests.
-
Explore other quilt squares. Users can browse virtual blocks submitted by people nationwide, creating a collective digital quilt.
