WILLIAMSBURG — Cook’s Burger Bar said its Classics for Classrooms initiative has now awarded more than $2,450 to eight local teachers.

The partnership with Williamsburg-James City County Schools, which is on pace to give back $7,500 to local teachers, demonstrates how small acts of generosity can make a meaningful impact in local classrooms, the restaurant said.

Since launching in August, the program has donated 25 cents from every “Cook’s Classic” burger sold in-house at both of its Williamsburg locations to community-nominated WJCC teachers. Cook’s said each of the eight selected educators has received an average of $300 to purchase classroom supplies, fund projects, and enhance their students’ learning experiences.
“Our guests have really embraced the idea that a burger can make a difference,” said Andrew Voss, Co-Founder of Against the Grain Restaurants. “We wanted to do something that went beyond the plate — something that connected our restaurants directly to the people shaping the next generation. We’re excited to learn how local educators use this opportunity to enhance their classrooms and inspire their students in new ways.”
Community members can continue to nominate local public school teachers each month at cooksburger.com/classics-for-classrooms. One teacher per location is selected monthly, and the program has received nearly 200 nominations from students, parents, colleagues and neighbors.

“Classics for Classrooms highlights so much good that surrounds us: our passionate educators who make a difference in the lives of every child, families and friends that nominate their teachers for much-deserved recognition, our community’s support with every Cook’s Classic burger they order and, most of all, Cook’s Burger Bar that passionately celebrates and honors our teachers month after month. To every corner of our community that’s making such an impact, thank you,” Daniel Keever, WJCC Schools Superintendent, said.

As the initiative grows, Cook’s Burger Bar plans to continue its partnership with WJCC Schools and explore opportunities to expand Classics for Classrooms to future Cook’s locations across Virginia.

Cook’s currently has two area locations: Midtown Row and The Gallery Shops in Lightfoot.
