YORK COUNTY — Commonwealth’s Attorney Krystyn Reid and United Way of the Virginia Peninsula are teaming up to launch A Way Home, a seasonal giving initiative supporting families across the Peninsula who are facing housing instability, domestic violence or emergency transitions during the winter months.
The initiative formally runs Dec. 1 through Jan. 1, with a community launch today to encourage residents to “shop with compassion” as they begin holiday purchases on Black Friday.
“A Way Home is about meeting people with dignity and support as they work to rebuild their lives,” Reid explained.
To participate in the initiative, the community can donate comfort items, hygiene products, and household essentials to help those in need. Items requested include blankets, towels, small kitchen sets including utensils, cups, and plates, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and children’s comfort items, such as coloring books or small toys.
“This initiative reflects what happens when compassionate leadership and community partnership come together,” said Charvalla West, CEO of United Way of the Virginia Peninsula.
The United Way of the Virginia Peninsula will distribute all donations to its partner agencies to ensure donations go to families across the peninsula.
Donations can be dropped off at the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula office, located at 101 York Crossing Road in Yorktown.
