POQUOSON — The City of Poquoson announced that through the Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority, it has entered into a multi-year contract with Republic Services for recycling starting Dec. 1.
November will be the last month of the current emergency contract with TFC utilizing the brown lid carts, the city said. The last blue recycling pickup is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 21, with the last red recycling pickup scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29.
Republic Services will continue with the existing recycling schedule as noted on the city’s solid waste calendar, with no service interruptions, according to the city.
Through a contractor, Republic Services will deliver new blue 95-gallon recycling carts to homes in the city’s solid waste program Saturday, Nov. 29, through Thursday, Dec. 4.
Residents should immediately use the blue Republic carts after their last November pickup date, according to the city. Any recycling collected in the old brown lid TFC carts must be transferred to the new blue carts.
The city said it is in conversation with TFC on the removal of the brown lid recycling carts. The carts will either be collected by TFC on your last November recycling day or at a later date by a contractor hired by the city.
Brown lid carts should not be disposed of, but should be left where they are accessible to be picked up.
