VIRGINIA BEACH — Gas prices remain relatively stable as November kicks off, according to AAA.
The national average for a gallon of regular went up nearly 5 cents since last week to $3.08. AAA said refinery maintenance in California is part of the reason for the increase: when refineries pause production, gas prices in the area temporarily go up. Still, the national average is lower than it was this time last year, it said, and gas prices should remain on a quiet path as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand decreased from 8.92 million barrels per day last week to 8.87 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 210.7 million barrels to 206 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.8 million barrels per day.
Locally, the gas price average for the Commonwealth Thursday was $2.88. Thursday’s price is the same as a week ago and eight cents lower than a month ago. In Hampton Roads, prices decreased one penny to $2.91, which is nine cents lower than a month ago and five cents higher than a year ago.
