WILLIAMSBURG — A new travel book by Matt Tory highlights Colonial Williamsburg as one of the country’s “Greatest Hits.”

With “Go See America: 118 of the USA’s Greatest Hits (According to a Guy Who Visited Them All),” the writer and filmmaker aims to take readers on a humorous, heartfelt tour of the most unforgettable spots across the USA.

While primarily a filmmaker, Tory said that he had always been a big traveler.

“I’ve always been very lucky to go on all kinds of road trips, see all of America, it’s kind of a reputation I’ve gained that anywhere in America that you want to go, I probably have been there at some point,” Tory said.

As a result, Tory, who notes that he has been to all 50 states as well as all of the national parks, says he gets questions from friends and acquaintances for recommendations on what to see or where to go.

“For the last few years, I was putting together some notes, and I figured all these things that I tell people about, I should just put them all into a book at some point,” Tory said.

But the main reason he says he wanted to write the book is because he feels like a lot of people in America don’t understand everything that is right in their backyard and what to see and explore. He wanted to highlight all kinds of spots, adding he’s been lucky enough to see across America and experience all kinds of highlights to discuss.

Tory chose to feature Colonial Williamsburg because he loves the history, saying there weren’t many places like it where guests could walk around and feel the history all around them. He also says it’s a great place to spend a day or a couple of days, since Jamestown is nearby as well.

“Virginia might be one of the most underrated states in the country,” Tory says. “It’s one of those states that has a lot of things where you could just spend a lot of time, and they’re not the big marquee things in America that are like, you know, go see the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon, that kind of stuff, but there’s all kinds of hidden gems in the state, more so than most states I can think of,” he added.

Other places in Virginia included in the book are the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park.

Tory advises someone traveling to Colonial Williamsburg to do their research and walk around to see all Colonial Williamsburg has to offer.

Currently, “Go See America” is exclusively for purchase on Amazon. For more information about Tory and his book, visit his official website.
