WILLIAMSBURG — Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Waltrip Williamsburg Executive Airport’s 55th Anniversary Airshow Celebration has been adjusted and will now become a free community celebration on Sept. 20.

The airshow team has announced that all aerial acts have been cancelled; however, the airport is still planning on hosting a community-wide celebration.

“No one was more excited to have our amazing aerobatic performers punctuate this 55th milestone than we were. We’re sorry to scale this year back. But we’re very excited to move ahead with a full-throttle, family-friendly celebration of aviation, community, and 55 years of history in the Historic Triangle. No tickets required — just bring your family, your friends, and your love of flight,” a Facebook post made by event organizers said.

On Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the public is invited to the anniversary celebration.  Currently, all static display aircraft are still scheduled to be on site. The Aero Adventure Kids Zone will be open, and several organizations are offering free and for-sale rides. Many food trucks and vendors also plan to remain part of the festival.

Parking will be free at the airport and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Organizers say the open house event will be similar to how the airport celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021, providing a behind-the-scenes look at how the local airport runs.

The airshow team adds that its ticketing partner, AttendStar, will be reaching out to customers who already purchased tickets about the refund process.

More information on the airshow changes will be added to the airport’s social media channels and website.
