Williamsburg Launches Digital Parking System

WILLIAMSBURG — The City of Williamsburg launched its digital-only parking permit platform Monday, Aug. 18.

As of Monday, all neighborhood and guest parking hangtags and decals were replaced by this digital platform, powered by Passport Inc., to streamline the management and enforcement of parking permits and passes. The cost for each permit remains $5.

Existing neighborhood permits are good through Aug. 31.

Only residents who live in parking permit zones must purchase neighborhood parking permits for on-street parking, the city said. Residents can check if they live in one of these zones at williamsburgva.gov/parkingmap.

The Passport system will also be in place for monthly, six-month, and annual parking passes for the Prince George Parking Garage, the city added

Permits and passes can be purchased at williamsburgva.gov/parking.

According to the city, starting Sept. 1, parking enforcement will use license plate readers to verify whether vehicles are registered for valid neighborhood permits and guest passes, as well as Prince George Parking Garage passes.

The city noted daily and hourly parking in the Prince George Parking Garage is paid for and managed through a separate Passport app or through the first-floor kiosk of the parking garage, not through the Williamsburg Parking Portal.

How to Purchase a Permit or Pass

Permits and passes can be purchased at williamsburgva.gov/parking, where there are also step-by-step guides for creating an account and purchasing a pass. Each application is reviewed by Finance staff, and residents will be contacted with any questions or with notification of approval.

Those who encounter issues purchasing a permit can seek assistance from the Finance Department in person at the Municipal Building or over the phone at 757-220-6180.
