Williamsburg Community Foundation 25th Anniversary Campaign Reaches $1 Million Mark

(Williamsburg Community Foundation)

WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Community Foundation announced that its 25th Anniversary Campaign has officially surpassed $1 million thanks to two new leadership donors who stepped forward after the official close of the campaign.

Launched to mark the Foundation’s milestone year, the campaign originally set out to raise $750,000 to build long-term support for local nonprofits, according to WCF. At the conclusion of the campaign earlier this year, community members had exceeded that goal, contributing $924,000.

Two final leadership gifts — one from longtime supporters Marc B. and Wilma R. Sharp, and another from Two Friends of Williamsburg who wish to remain anonymous — pushed the total over $1 million, the foundation said.

The campaign officially concluded on Jan. 31. WCF’s goal was to build long-term resources to support its competitive grants to local nonprofits, year after year. With this expanded capacity, the foundation said it will be able to increase its annual awards to local nonprofits tackling critical needs — from education, food security, housing, and health care services to environmental sustainability and access to arts and cultural experiences that enrich community life.

“Crossing the $1 million mark is a powerful milestone — not just in dollars, but in what it represents,” said Nancy Sullivan, President & CEO. “It’s not about one campaign — it’s about what comes next. These gifts are a vote of confidence in the future of Williamsburg. Because of them, we can award more grants to the nonprofits that help our neighbors and our community thrive.”

The foundation said while it holds more than $33.7 million in total assets, just over $8 million is permanently endowed for competitive grantmaking — the kind of funding that allows the Foundation to respond directly to local needs and opportunities. Growing this pool is a key strategy for expanding impact, it said.
