WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg Regional Library is inviting the public to attend upcoming information sessions focused on the proposed addition of a new library space at the proposed James City County Consolidated Government Center.
The sessions will be held at the James City County Recreation Center in Rooms B and C on the following dates:
- Monday, July 7 from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
These open-house style sessions will focus exclusively on the library portion of the proposed development and are designed to give community members the opportunity to view preliminary floor plans, ask questions and share feedback on programming and interior design that will help shape the future of the new library facility, WRL said.
The proposed library would occupy approximately 25,000 square feet as part of the James City County Consolidated Government Center, to be located next to the existing Recreation Center on Longhill Road. The potential new facility would become the third library location in the WRL system, it noted, joining the Williamsburg Library and James City County Library.
“This new branch is a critical step in meeting the library service needs of our growing population,” said WRL Director Sandy Towers. “We’re excited about the opportunity to build a space that not only expands access to library resources but also fosters connection, creativity, and lifelong learning in a modern, welcoming environment.”
WRL said it envisions a “vibrant, flexible community space where users can read, meet, work, learn, and grow.” While it added each WRL branch will retain its own distinct character, the potential new facility will offer the same core collections, programs, and services that library users enjoy at existing locations.
During the public input sessions, attendees will be able to interact with WRL staff at a series of informational stations, WRL said. In addition to viewing design concepts and proposed interior uses, visitors will be encouraged to complete a short survey to provide their input on programs, services, and interior design features. The survey will also be available online for those unable to attend in person at wrl.org.
