Photo Gallery: Fort Eustis Honors Army’s 250th Birthday with Open House Celebration

FORT EUSTIS — The gates to Fort Eustis were open to the public for the first time since 2018 for a special celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday Friday.

Guests at the event were treated to live music, laser tag, a bounce house, a petting zoo, pony rides, axe throwing, food, interactive displays of Army vehicles, helicopters, watercraft and gear. To conclude the festival, The Nashville Nights Band performed, and fireworks could be seen above the base.

“This is the first time Fort Eustis has opened its gates to the public since 2018, so we are excited to invite our neighbors back as we celebrate this historic milestone with a day full of fun, entertainment and music,” said U.S. Army Col. Laura Hutchinson, 733rd Mission Support Group commander. “Opening our gates is our way of thanking the community for their continued support and offering them a unique glimpse of the great things our soldiers do every day.”

Visitors also had the opportunity to tour Third Port. Third Port is the home of Army watercraft at Fort Eustis. Watercraft tours included a logistical support vessel, a landing craft utility and a small tug boat.

The Fifes and Drums of York Town also performed.
