HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Members of the James City County Police Department and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office participated in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run Friday.
The “Flame of Hope” Torch Run takes place annually when law enforcement agencies carry the torch throughout the commonwealth. The run helps raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Virginia athletes.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office team ran three miles in support of the torch run. James City County Police ran the torch 14 miles in three hours to the New Kent County line, where they handed off the torch to another law enforcement agency to continue on towards Richmond to officially open the Special Olympics competition.
“The Torch Run is more than just a run — it’s a symbol of unity, inclusion, and support for the athletes of Special Olympics. We’re honored to play a part in helping carry the Flame of Hope and stand alongside these inspiring individuals,” a spokesperson for the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said.
