YORK COUNTY — In an effort to be transparent with the public, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will host a Crime Forum on April 24 from 6-8 p.m. at department headquarters on Goodwin Neck Road.
At the forum, York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery and deputies of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office will discuss public safety topics and answer audience questions. There will also be a presentation on an overview of local crime statistics and trends.
“Community policing is not something we just started recently. Anybody that has been around the Sheriff’s Office for any length of time realizes that this a part of the culture in the sheriff’s office and we take our relationship with York County and it’s citizens and businesses, we’re very concerned about it and we work on it all the time. We have a saying in the Sheriff’s Office that small things matter,” Sheriff Ron Montgomery said.
Potential topics for discussion include law enforcement’s role in mental health response, supporting the special needs community, use of flock cameras and license plate readers, ICE/Immigration and law enforcement’s involvement and limitations, enforcement concerns related to vape shops and THC-A, addressing and investigating school threats, school zone safety, compliance and current scams affecting the region.
Additional guest speakers include Del. Chad Green and Commonwealth Attorney Krystyn Reid.
The event is free and open to members of the public. Pre-registration is required through the Sheriff’s Office.
