WILLIAMSBURG — The Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District is gearing up to host a “Spring into Conservation” event on April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.
On April 12, the public is invited to Freedom Park Interpretive Center to learn from area resources about conservation efforts. The free event will feature three presentations on the various conservation offerings available in the region.
There will also be giveaways, displays, and hands-on activities for all ages.
“This in-person event will feature interactive exhibits, short educational presentations, and hands-on activities for all ages. Come explore ways to protect our environment and make a positive impact on the world around us. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to connect with nature and learn how you can help preserve it for future generations,” said Amanda Whispell, Education and Outreach Specialist for CSWCD.
Bartlett Tree Services will be on hand with giveaways including small bags of soil love, gators/buffs, bumper stickers, key chains, and thermometers. Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District will also have giveaways, including lots of native plant and insect stickers, “save our water” keychains, notepads, glasses wipes and can coolers.
The Williamsburg Area Beekeepers Association will have the organization’s observation hive on display and information about honeybees. In addition, the group will give away a native bee house. The York River Stewards will have 50 Redbud and 50 White Oak seedlings available.
“Several local conservation organizations will be present at the event and will be there to offer you insight and answer questions about our environment,” Whispell said.
Other organizations participating in the event are Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory, Virginia Department of Forestry, Ford’s Colony Green Team, Historic Rivers Master Naturalists, James City County, James River Association, Native Plant Society, Plant Native Virginia and Williamsburg Community Growers.
The event is free. Children under 18 require a chaperone. Free registration and tickets are available via Eventbrite.
