YORKTOWN — VDOT will be paving all of the roads in historic Yorktown in late April, the county announced.
This includes:
- Water Street, from the entrance to the picnic area to the Parkway Overpass
- Ballard Street, to the Coast Guard Station
- All other streets and cross streets
Parking lots are not included in the paving schedule.
In preparation for paving, VDOT needs to trim trees and bushes on all roads to allow the trucks to get through, the county noted, with tree trimming beginning around the week of March 17.
No trees will be removed unless they are dead or hazardous, the county emphasized, adding that ivy is killing some of the trees, and they may need to be removed. There will be an arborist on site to advise on proper pruning cuts, the county said.
The paving will take several weeks once it starts, and will be weather-dependent, the county cautioned. Additionally, the project may interrupt the trolley’s regular routes, but trash and recycling will still be collected.
Residents will be notified by the contractor, Allan Myers, about parking during paving.
Work will begin on Water Street and then will proceed to the other side streets, with the final work scheduled toward the Coast Guard Station.
