YORKTOWN — York County Parks and Recreation and Southeastern Virginia Health System, in partnership with the Peninsula Agency on Aging, recently announced a free Flu Vaccine Clinic to be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center of York.
The clinic located at 5314 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, is open to all adults aged 18 and over. No insurance is required to receive a Flu vaccine, and walk-ins are welcome, the county said. COVID vaccines will also be provided if available.
“Vaccines are safe and help prevent serious illness,” said Angela Futrell, Chief Executive Officer of Southeastern Virginia Health System (SEVHS). “As we age, our immune systems may gradually weaken, increasing our vulnerability to specific illnesses. That’s why it’s crucial that all of us, especially adults age 60 and older, stay up to date with vaccines.”
Southeastern Virginia Health System is a community-based healthcare initiative in Hampton Roads for the insured, uninsured, and underinsured, and operates fifteen community healthcare centers, providing primary care and dental services to individuals and families.
“We are proud to support initiatives that promote health and wellness in our community, particularly for area older adults,” said Bill Massey, President & CEO of the Peninsula Agency on Aging, “Getting vaccinated is one of the most effective ways to stay healthy during the upcoming flu season.”
Peninsula Agency on Aging has been providing services that enable older adults to live independently since 1974. Go to paainc.org or call 757-873-0541 for more information.
