WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg Police are working with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department in California in the case of a missing Williamsburg man with mental disabilities.
Officers originally took a report of a missing adult with mental disabilities on Sept. 4. The initial investigation revealed that James Robert Cox, 61, of the 200 block of Parkway Drive in the City of Williamsburg, was missing from his apartment and was last seen by family members on May 18.
Prior to receiving a missing persons report, the McKinley County Sheriff’s Department in New Mexico interacted with Cox during a traffic stop on Aug. 30. Cox informed deputies that he was driving to San Jacito, California. The department reported Cox appeared disoriented and confused and he was transported by ambulance to the Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital in Gallup, New Mexico. Later that evening, he was discharged from the hospital and transported back to his vehicle.
The Williamsburg Police Department received a call on Sept. 6 from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department (DHSPD) regarding an abandoned vehicle that was registered to Cox, however, Cox was not located.
Cox is still missing, and the Williamsburg Police Department said it is actively assisting DHSPD in their efforts to locate him. Cox has a mental disability and health issues, police said.
Cox is described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, weighing 175 pounds, with a bald head. He occasionally wears glasses and moves slowly, police said.
