WILLIAMSBURG — The Bicycle Co-Op of Williamsburg, a project of nonprofit organization BikeWalk Williamsburg, is opening its new storefront on Friday, April 1.
The Bicycle Co-Op of Williamsburg, 601-E Merrimac Trail, sees volunteers refurbish and repurpose old bikes to make them rideable and sell them to individuals based on their ability to pay.
The Co-Op is located in James York Shopping Plaza behind Shorty’s Diner and to the left of Food Lion.
The shop’s grand opening will take place on Friday, April 1 from noon to 4 p.m., with an official ribbon cutting at 2 p.m., and Saturday, April 2 from noon to 4 p.m.
The Bicycle Co-Op’s mission is to receive, refurbish donated bicycles and distribute them to people referred to by social service agencies.
The Co-Op shop will also serve as a space to repair bicycles, train youth and educate the community about the benefits of safe bicycling.
